Mid Vermont Christian School is located in White River Junction, Vermont. Mid Vermont Christian School provides a Christ-centered education for students of all grades and prides itself on its Christian teachers creating a supportive environment where each student is personally known. Mid Vermont Christian School is accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International.
In 2023, the girls high school basketball team chose not to play against another school which was allowing a boy to play on its girls’ team. Unbelievably, the Vermont Principals’ Association expelled Mid Vermont Christian School from all Vermont Principals’ Association sports and activities as a result. This horrendous decision by the Vermont Principals’ Association severely impacted Mid Vermont Christian School by discouraging current and prospective students and athletes from attending the school.
On behalf of Mid Vermont Christian School and some of their students and families, the non-profit Alliance Defending Freedom filed a lawsuit against Vermont officials supporting Mid Vermont Christian School’s adherence to its religious belief that God creates us, male and female. In addition to the cancellation of participation in athletic activities, the state also asked the school to adopt the state’s view on human sexuality as a condition for participating in the state’s tuition program. The state then enacted a new law, excluding all religious schools in the state from participating in that program.
Vermont officials have run roughshod over the free speech and religious liberties of Mid Vermont Christian School’s staff, students and families. Mid Vermont Christian School achieved an interim victory in September, 2025 when the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit ruled that Vermont must allow this Christian school to participate in the state’s athletic association while the lawsuit proceeds.
