James Beeks lives in Florida and was in Washington D.C. on January 6, 2021. James was starring in the 50th anniversary tour of Jesus Christ Superstar, a Broadway tour, when he was arrested by the FBI in late 2021. James was subject to ankle monitoring and house arrest for four months.
James was at the high point of his career looking to achieve larger opportunities in the entertainment industry. As a result of his arrest James’ employment contract was terminated. James was charged with numerous offences including, Conspiracy to Obstruct an Official Proceeding, Obstruction of an Official Proceeding, Conspiracy to prevent an Officer from discharging any duties, Destruction of Government Property, Entering and remaining in a restricted Building or grounds and Civil Disorder.
Despite the severity of these charges, James, represented himself without an attorney, and in July, 2023 he was found not guilty in a stipulated bench trial held in Washington, D.C. However, the sensationalism surrounding his case in international news and talk shows, has caused irrevocable damage to his good name and reputation, particularly in the entertainment industry where he once thrived.
This arrest and trial, and even though he was acquitted, turned his life upside down, ending his performance career and financial stability. Solely, as a result of exercising his First Amendment rights, and even though he was found not guilty, his career and livelihood were ruined as he has been blacklisted within the industry where he used to work.
